_definition: studio kb is a conceptual workspace meant to explore multimedia practices in the fiber arts. established october 2020 in los angeles, california, now based in new york city. SLOW ART.

_sewing: i got a sewing machine in september of 2024. my first project was a quilt! i then started using patterns to create garments, pouches for various uses, and am in the process of free handing my own purse utilizing secondhand fabrics and found notions.

_knitting: my oldest love, i have made multiple sweaters, tapestries, socks, hats, and more.

_crochet: i have recently gotten into using vintage 1950-1960’s patterns and creating filet tapestries. i have also made wearables and housewares.

_punch needle: what studio kb owes its start. created prototype pieces of different sizes, ranging from 2x2 to 8x8 inches. experimented with different types of yarn and string, self-dyeing yarns to create unique colors, custom making frames and using frames of different shapes. created collages with found objects and reclaimed beads, utilizing jewelry making techniques for more intricate beading designs. playing with color combinations and designs while intertwining texture, weight, density, carving, pile height, woodworking into the process. consciousness of scrap material and waste, integrating fiber scraps and yarns back into works.

i’ve also dabbled in jewelry making and clay works.

_faq:
what are the tufted blocks? this particular craft is called punch needling, and is essentially manual rug making. i stretch my works onto frames to add depth and to make them hangable. punch needling is under a larger umbrella of craft know as fiber arts, which involves the use of fibers (yarns, fabrics). these works are meant to be displayed in a space either hanging on a wall or leaned upright.
