No Play, 2018 [plywood, wooden dowels, foam core, acrylic paint, ping pong ball]
Hand constructed custom ping-pong paddles for Theories of Game and Play. Inspired by Surrealist and Fluxus movement games, No Play utilizes many aspects of these games and ideas and also aims to demonstrate the hypocrisy of war and comment on cultural ways of recreation and leisure through the implementation of impossible paddles and altered appearance of the playing field.
With the full game pictured, a white board is used to essentially nullify the competitive and confrontational aspects of the game. The board was left white as it alludes to a neutral playing field due to the historical use of white as the color of surrender.
