"THE CLOUD"

“THE CLOUD”, 2019 [mixed media, arduino]

“THE CLOUD” is a collaborative installation piece made with fellow dynamic interface design student april chu (@aprlc).
it is a physical representation of society’s personified presence of The Cloud, a mechanism used to store data with no seemingly physical location of its storage. an arduino programmed light strip is triggered by the push of a button that sends a patterned beam of light up and into the cloud formations.
we wanted to turn The Cloud into a tangible object, with a human interactive component (necessary for the arduino to initiate the lights), meant to portray the idea that through physical touch (fingerprints to unlock our phones, or typing information into a website, for example) we give technology a lot of access to information and data about ourselves. our installation is meant to raise questions regarding privacy, data collection and harboring, and autonomy in the digital age of information.
